Your photography is so superior!
Attention to detail amongst the sometimes most obscure and taken for granted subjects.
This is a wonderful vehicle to share it. I almost wrote share all of it, but I know from experience only the best we do we feel can be shared.
Wishing you all the best, Tom.
HAPPY SHOOTING!

Thank you,

Tom,

I wanted to comment on your midwest gallery but I couldn't find a way to comment for some reason. What I wanted to say is that after living in both high-density urban areas and in a very rural area, those who haven't lived in both don't actually realize how different the worlds are. I'm partial to the rural areas because of the relaxed slower pace but is nevertheless full of industry -- it's just more spread out.

I enjoyed looking through the very nice photos in the gallery for two reasons. One is that they are nice photos and the other is because they show the point I made above.

Hi Tom,

I too was disappointed that there's no option to comment on individual galleries and images.

I was very interested in the Nachusa Grasslands restoration, and in particular the woodland/grassland transition - a fascinating environment. There are many ecological equivalents in my home country of Australia, particularly in semi-arid parts of the south, but once the grasslands have been plowed and phosphate added to the soil for cropping, the grassland flora is more or less irreparably destroyed.

Is fire important in maintaining the woodland/grassland transition?

Regards, Don

Hello Tom,
I love discovering scenes from elsewhere that resembles scenes from my own place
And also the same object in the same place photographed by someone else, with his own vision of the subject.

Here is your photo from Illinois : http://www.pbase.com/salty_one/image/83899808
And here is mine from Québec : http://www.pbase.com/pijoly/image/56818240

I browse many times through your galleries and enjoyed them a lot and wanted to comment on some individual image, but you seem to have disabled that feature.

I don't understand because you did a very good job on all !?

Best regards ___Keep shooting . . .

Tom,
I enjoy looking at your railroad and grain elevator shots. There are two grain elevators that are outstanding. The Utica elevator with the grain dryer working and the canal. The other one is the abandoned elevator with the corn field.
I shoot a lot of grain elevator out here in the west. Please take a look at some of my galleries.
Great job. Looking forward to other images.

Just HAD to stop by to thank you for your site and wonderful work! Recently moved out of a half century of living in Chicago to the 'country' and awoke to an Osprey in my yard tree helping me enjoy my morning coffee from the deck. HAD to learn more about the birds in my yard and stumbled upon your site while searching for Midwest birds. THANKS! Wonderful stuff, which I plan to investigate much more. Cheers...

Stumbled upon your work trying to find the name of these large black birds we have in Kansas City these past 2 weeks. Loved your midwest winter birds and the summer and fall birds as well. I could see myself doing some kind of a collage with many of those bird images with perhaps the name of the bird watermarked somewhere on each image. It would teach me and the kids about our birds! And my MIL would love to have all the Vermillion images, as she lives near the Vermillion River. Great work! And of course, I had to check out Intimate Water gallery that everyone has raved about here. Loved many of those images!

I think we share an aesthetic, one of looking for intriguing patterns regardless of scale. You might enjoy some of my galleries of Vermont images, particularly "Boulder and Boulder", at www,pbase.com/copyeedditor

Tom, Outstanding work. My favorites were the leaf and railroad galleries. The leaf images are very expressive, beautifully exposed too (which is to say, not over-exposed or too saturated). A wonderful, natural feel and excellent comp.

I got your photos when I Googled, images for the Utica Elevator. I saw the elevator when I was stopping at Kelley's bar and restaurant in Utica last Sunday on my return trip from
my family reunion at Hickory Hollow Campground. I was wondering what the small cylinders were that recently have been added to several elevators and Utica was the only one that I saw closer than the passenger window in a car.
