Excellent gallery of mountain and stream images. Rich captures the true scene the eye sees - a rare quality. Thanks for sharing.

Your site is awesome! I have searched many wildflower and bird sites to identify several of the unidentified photos I have. I've found many right here. Your pictures are not only beautiful, they are so detailed. Thank you for sharing the work you must have spent years putting together. I live in the piedmont region of NC and enjoy taking photos of nature from all of NC. My husband and I travel, so I also have many photos from other states. (I think my photos of my 4 grandchildren probably outnumber my nature ones though. ha)

there is another falls at Brasstown that is below the one in your last picture....Most folks don't know about it...I t is larger than the others. Im order to get to it you must crossover below the steep rock at the bottom of the 4th falls...Takes about 15 minutes to get there. You will need to go up a trail on the left siide of the stream to get to the bottom...Well worth the extra walk

Love Hendersonville and the plants around the area. I also love documenting my trips through the plants I find on my trips. Really enjoy your photographs and knowledge. So glad you post them here!

Thanks for a great reference on native wildflowers. We live in Waynesville, and your website will help us identify the plants we have and others to look for at growers and nurseries in the area.

Hi! Your photography is amazing. Thanks for sharing and letting us know where these waterfalls are. Never knew so many were around. Your website is great and I appreciate the trail information.
Austin 19-Mar-2012 17:21
Hi Rich,
I am so glad I found your site. I spent every possible minute from age 14 until I was about 20 (and became stupid) in and around Wilson creek and Table Rock, and now that I'm in my 60s I can't wait to get back to those creeks and hills. Your site will be a great bookmark for the beginnings of many adventures I'm sure. By the way I got to your site by way of an article in Our State magazine (3/2012) about Dupont State Forest, then just clicking around.
Thanks,
Austin

I visited your other sites today where you sell your prints, and park information, links and so forth, great sites. Would love to have a great site. I wanted to let you know I put your name on one of my Abrams Falls Images at Redbubble.comJeffeeArt4u, where people could find some of the best Waterfalls I had ever seen on the internet. It looks like you get a lot of mail, and travel/Leon Gourley was born in Cades Cove,...my late Father in law. Jeffee Gourley.
JeffeeArt4u 21-Dec-2011 22:28
Well, I spent some time looking at more of your Water Falls and Smokies work, I have to say, the best I have ever seen. Like I stated on some images, they need to be offered from a press, in a book. Compile some of your stories of adventure or photography, would make a great book. See you again....Jeffee Gourley / since my account isn't active at this time, I wrote your name down. Hope you visit the garden images I do from my Smoky Mountains garden habitat, Gourley Garden, Anolis Carolinensis Lizard Habitat. Lizard Lady...Jeffee
JeffeeArt4u 21-Dec-2011 21:27
Still looking at the falls, you have so many, you should do a book, and with your experiences, or about photography. I had family from NC. late Rev. C.P.Holland, Baptist missionary, and more of Dads family, but I remember going to my grandmothers when I was small when she lived in a silver trailer in the 60's. I always got sick on the curves. I wrote a saying about the curves in the Smoky Mountains with an Abrams Falls Picture, writing at Redbubble.comJeffeeArt4u.
JeffeeArt4u 21-Dec-2011 21:18
Really enjoyed the TN Falls gallery, I want to oil paint some again after seeing your photos. These I haven't seen. I live in the Smoky Mountains, land ajoins the Park, at the Foothills Parkway senic drive. Most of my photos are from my garden in the Smokies, Gourley Garden, see it here. Stumble upon your site. I am stunned at both the quality and quantity of photos. I'm just a amateur photographer, and mostly have used photos for painting. Words fail me, Rich. I have added NC to my list of places to visit.

Dear Rich,
I will be moving to Winston-Salem, North Carolina in September 2011 and have never been to NC so I just type in "photos of North Carolina on the computer and I was SO glad your website can up. Your photos are breath-taking. We are more anxious about getting there to see all this splendor God created. Your Beautiful pictures have enriched my life. Thank you for sharing them. Doris

Rich..........

i have heard your name many times from Bernie B. and not sure if we've met before, but it seems as if we have..........
i have a question for you, wanting the names of a couple of falls.......

going North on 215, having passed the BRP, you cross Bubbling Springs, continue down, crossing the Pigeon where the trail goes back up towards Big Sam..continuing on down the hill and, just before you come to the falls of the Pigeon (goes under the road in a big culvert), just before there, on the curve just up the hill, you park on the curve, walk up a small bank, and go left..........you come to a stream crossing with falls above and below, cross this stream, and go for about a minute and you come to another waterfall in a blind box canyon setting.........
what is the names of both these creeks and falls.........??
thanks a lot, and lets go out roaming one day......
Ted Denman 28-Feb-2011 15:59
I really enjoyed viewing your NC waterfall gallery. I am planning a photography waterfall trip the second week of April 2011 to the Pisgah Forest and Cashiers region. I hope to find some waterfalls as nice as yours!

Keep shoot'n. Ted
George 29-Dec-2010 06:19
Rich, I thought I had been to most waterfalls in the NC mountains. Thanks for displaying your photos....I'm quite sure a few of these places where challenging to get to.

Have you ever viewed "Lost Creek Falls" in TN. To this day, this still resides as the #1 fall experience I've explored.

Also, do you mind if I use one of your photos on my educational site:
astrosynergy.com/aqua/waterfall.html (I placed copyright caption along with a link to your profile)

Thanks,

George

Best Carolinas wild flower photos I've found. You are amazing! You make me want to try some wild flower photography the next time I go hiking.

Thank you so much for posting these pics. I have and always will be in love with the N.C. mountains. I live two hours away but I ride up there almost every weekend. With the outer banks on the coast and mountains in the west you would have to say that we live in paradise. Post more pics of the Smokies whenever you get them. If creation is this beautiful how is our Creator going to look?

Truly captivating photography. I share many of the same passions. Trees, flora, fauna, mushrooms, waterfalls, etc. What type of camera do you use? And do you post the camera settings along with the photos?

I too have travelled to the Ashville, Montreat N.C. area and know of its beauty. I need to get back there with a camera and plenty of hiking time!

These photos are beautiful. You have a wonderful site. I'm from western North Carolina so I've seen a lot of these waterfalls/scenes in person many times; you've done an outstanding job capturing their splendor. I haven't been home in years and stumbled across your site looking for pictures of home to show my kids so they could see what a beautiful place I grew up in. Thanks for making me homesick!*lol*

Dear Rich,

I love photographing waterfalls but live in Florida and only get the chance to do this on occasion. Your work is so amazing and prolific:) The ray of light ones are especially stunning. You have given me inspiration to do more waterfall work as I may move to Vermont soon and I hear there are great waterfalls there! Keep up the great art and God bless you.

Keep up the outstanding work and may you never lose your passion!!

Rich,
I know you try and cram in as much as you can do in fall season, with leaves changing but your site is so neat, and have shown it to many folks. They have been impressed.
Hopefully they will become regular visitors to ncwaterfalls.com.
I try and check everyday for updates since I live 2 hours away from area at minimum, depending where we are going.
Thanks for your devotion to your "passion" and hope you continue for many years to come.
We will be busy for a number of weekends coming up before the end of the year, but hope to get back uo that way after 1/1/08 as best we can. I enjoy every day your web site, and Pbase account as well.
we have emailed in the past,

Your gift is amazing! Most people say a picture doesnt do it justice. Well, your photos are just as good, if not better than being there. I am a part time Highlander and have seen all of the waterfalls, I dont know if its the time of season or that it's just your gift, but your photos are breath taking.

Rich, Your pictures are beautiful! I have visited your other website ncwaterfalls many times and appreciate your pics, stories, and directions. I have finally made my goal of visiting over 100 waterfalls. I live in Chapel Hill, so I have quite a drive out to the mountains. I don't think I will be able to catch up to you anytime soon. I have been away from the mountains now for three years when I moved to Paris, France and your photographs really bring me a peace of home. I lived in Asheville for close to fifteen years and hiked most of the region exploring the waterfalls and trails leading to indescribably beautiful places. Magical in a silent way. When I tell people here about the richness and beauty of the Blue Ridge they always ask me what am I doing here. Thank you for taking me back and being able to truly capture what words find hard to describe. Merci

The waterfalls of South Carolina are a real treat. I'm sure all other galleries are also. I'll enjoy them as soon as I have the time. I'm alerting friends and family of this site. Thank you.

It is nice that you not only enjoyed these beautiful places but also share them with others! Just to think to live here in N.C. all this time and miss all this beauty! I guess I was born in the mountains for a reason now I wish I had never left!

Hello - I was seeking a better photo of Drosera rotundifolia (Roundleaf sundew) than in my Wildflower book for identification purposes and I found it on your web site! It has apparently been spotted in the North Cascades, Mt. Baker (Bagley Lakes) area of Washington State and I was attempting to locate it to photograph yesterday. Couldn't find it - but may have a better chance now that I've got a better idea of what I'm looking for! I'm from BC (Langley) but hike in the Mt Baker/North Cascades area all summer. The scenery there is stunning. The wildflowers there are beautiful too - but I will never be able to attain the quality of photographs that you have posted (and I'm not a rank amateur)! Wonderful & bookmarked forever!

Wow, this photography blows me away! I was born & raised in the Piedmont area of NC, and my family's only annual vacation spot was to these spectacular mountains. I now reside in FL, but my soul longs for those mountains. North Carolina is God's country, and it has to be one of the most beautiul places of this earth. My dream is to, some day, live there again, but this time, I want a place in the moutains. Thank you soooooo much, Rich, for this site, of which I just happened upon. It's been the highlight of my week to have found it. I shall bookmark it and visit it often. God Bless!

Waterfalls are magical places. Each one, no matter how large or small, inspires peaceful feelings, and instills a calmness of spirit. They captivate the imagination. If a person's eyes are windows to the soul, waterfalls are the eyes to the soul of the mountains. I fell in love with the North Carolina mountains when I was very young. Thank you for capturing on film the essence of these beautiful places.
Robbie D7021-Jul-2005 19:49
Hi Rich , thanks for the information and time spent answering , keep up the good work .
Robbie D7011-Jul-2005 20:21
Hello Rich, thanks for the comments. You mentioned a polarizing filter , how does this help with waterfalls ? is it to stop surface glare or make the water transparent? Do you notice the unusual plant life that seems to be around these waterfalls ? A friend told me he did notice the plantlife (and the pond life taking pictures)! hes joking and jealous.
Still think there is lots of scope with waterfalls ,ie seasons , water levels , sunbeams,
possibly black and white. Did like the rainbow effect caught in the mist/spray.
You take the best waterfalls on this site and I will keep looking. Robbie.

I grew up in this area, and even before I was old enough to hike it myself my mom would tie me up in a make due 'papoose' sack and take me hiking, picking berries and gathering sassafrass and spicewood for tea. I saw alot of friends grow up and leave, looking for bigger and 'better' things, but these mountains have always held on to my spirit, this is a special place and I wanted to let you know that I love the way you catch the magic in the nature here with your photograpy!

Great site! Having a look at all of these falls in the area before visiting them is very helpful.

Uncle Richy, I never relized how impressive your site was. I spent like 2 hours just looking around on it. All I have to say is, "can you say National Geographic material." We need to go hiking or something sometime. Well, anyway great job and hope to see you soon.

Rich, I love your pictures of North Carolina. Do you know of or even have any pictures of Brush Creek. This little creek runs into the Cullasaja river just up from the falls. Jackson Hole gift shop is right next to the creek. Thanks

I also have a Sony Dsc-70, the contrasts and colors are really beautiful. A couple of months ago, I bought a Nikon D100 (totally different!) The Sony has its own personality but less versatile. I still like both cameras for each their own characteristics.
After taken thousands of photos with the Dsc-70, I can say that you master yours superbly well. Your falls are fantastic, colors, framing, exposure time, you have found the perfect recipe and you’ve got a lot of talent and a great imagination.
Congratulations and thank you for sharing.

Hey Rich,
I enjoyed your new pics. I hope to start shooting some more falls again this spring. I haven't kept up my old web site in about 3 years. I started posting some of my newer work on pbase also. I only have a few falls so far as I hope to get more of them on digital and add them. I spent a lot of time the past few years shooting other things.
Great to see your work again.

Hey Rich,
These are some "sweet" shots! Man... I love them all. The one of the fall color, and low clouds from the Parkway is as good as I've ever seen printed. I can see you've been a busy man recently. Very impressive stuff.
