Message from Martin Trachsel
Photography started to be an important part of my life in october 1987 with my first SLR, a Minolta 7000, a birthday gift by my father. I loved taking pictures, but I was lacking the patience and diligence for dark room work. So I ended up producing slides nobody wanted to see. Other things became more important to me, and from 1995 on my cameras only left the cupboard when I went on travel.
In 2002 I bought a Canon G2, soon complemented by its more compact sibling Ixus 400. The joy of photography returned. Two years later I felt the need for a longer lens and a few pixels more - which led me to buy a Coolpix 8800 VR. I also started scanning my old slides. It was an intensive, but short and sobering interlude. In May 2005, frustrated by the low quality of my old slides and the slow (though good) performance of the Coolpix, I bought a Canon 20D and a couple of lenses. The number of pictures taken since has exploded and the technical quality of my pictures is improving. But the artistic value, well ... some day later I hope ...

Playing around with a lot of different equipment has shown me one thing so far: If I want to create better pictures, I don't need better equipment, I have to become a better photographer.
In this, I hope, the gallery will help me. Selecting and showing my pictures to others, receiving comments and studying the often stunning work shared on pbase will give me new inspiration, I am sure.
