Hey Stephen, Just came across your butterfly pic from Ecudor and I believe my mystery might be solved. I took a shot of a butterfly in Costa Rica along the caribbean side near Punta Uva. I tried and could never identify it even at places that specialized in them. It looks very similar to yours but a little different, here it is.
