Your photos and descriptions of your two hikes in Peru are wonderful - thanks for posting. My family is planning to hike in either Huayhuash or Cedro Alpamayo. Seems like you had a great time on both hikes. Anything you could share that might help us choose would be awesome. We like solitude in the mountains and seems like the first part of Alpamayo is a bit busy - how was the Huayhuash trip in that regard. The trail and beauty of both seem similar - thoughts on this? The opportunity to climb Diablo Mudo on Huayhuash seems fun. Thanks!

PS - we did Alta Via 2 in Dolomites and it was beautiful!

Hi Katherine! Thank you for your detailed posts and amazing photography! My husband and I will be travelling from Venice and spending 5 nights in the Dolomites at the beginning of September 2018. We will be hiking but not staying in Refugios rather in Hotels. We were hoping to base ourselves in one town and do moderate-strenuous hiking day trips (we do not have a car). Our hope is to see the WWI trenches as well as hike through some of the nature parks, lakes, Val Badia etc. My main question is where would you recommend basing ourselves in the Cortina d’Ampezzo area or Alta Badia (Corvara) or Val Gardena? We could split our time in two different places if you think it’s necessary. Thank you so much, Karen

Your Dolomite trip looks fantastic and I am thinking of doing it with my family this summer. I tried to link to the map route but it did not work. Do you still have a route map available? Also how easy was it to book the Refugios?
Thanks!

Your photography is a joy to look at. Pretty sure our next trip to Europe will be focused on the Dolomites solely due to your pictures. Spectacular scenery.
Haven't looked through all your galleries yet, but the plains pictures were beautiful. The early-morning scene of the abandoned school house and others... Wow. I'd have these blown up to at least poster-sized and hanging all over the walls of my home if I'd taken 'em!
Thanks

I have no idea who you folks are, found this looking for info on Mt Robson. Just wanted to say that you look like you have a spectacular family that does great things together! My girl is three years old currently and I look forward to interesting adventures for my family too :->.

Your pictures are spectacular, also!

Sounds like I'm not the only one that has stumbled upon your blog from Trip Advisor :) I've loved looking at your pictures and reading about your families adventures, super inspirational! I'm a student from the US working in Italy over the summer and am wanting to do a week long, nature-focused trip in August before I go home. I would love to do hut to hut hiking, but I don't have any gear with me and have never done it before (only used to tent camp in Rocky Mountain growing up). I was wondering first, if you recommend some of the Tour de Mont Blanc or the Dolomites more, and second, what kind of gear you think I would need? Any advice would be great, thanks!

I also found you on TripAdvisor and plan on hiking the dolomites. Love your photos! Sounds like a ridiculous question, but it is a serious one... what brand of blue convertible pants is Steve wearing? I have been searching for a light pair of cargo shorts/pants and was wondering what brand/type of shorts/pants Steve was wearing for hiking?

Woops-- forgot to add my email!

Hello!

I am a student from Oklahoma and am studying abroad in Italy for the semester. I have been planning to visit the Dolomites for a hiking trip and came across your blog. The photos are stunning and I am so excited to see those views! I will probably have about four days in the Dolomites and wanted to ask you which hikes you would recommend? We are both very physically fit but do not have any gear. We plan to leave in a couple of weeks.

You take such amazing pictures!!! You inspire me to go travel where you have been because you have captured the beauty of each places you have been to!! I am an amateur photographer and definitely loves taking landscape shots and like you, of course wants to tag my family of 3 along. We are also amateur hikers and we have so much to learn, but thanks to people like you who shares what they know-- we are slowly getting there. May I ask what camera you've been using and what software you use to edit? Thank you so very much again!!

Thank you for sharing your holiday. I have just read your trip in the southwest as we are planning a trip there later this month and I am still doing research. We leave New Zealand at the end of the week and visit family in NY before heading to Phoenix and driving all through the area for 16 days. Thanks again it's been very informative and I wish I had found it earlier but it's not too late

Nice photo of the arch on Corkscrew. I am wondering if it is possible to hike to this arch in early February and which trailhead (directions please) provides the best access? Thanks for sharing, Rob of the WV, see wildernessvagabond.com

What a wonderful year you have had. Thanks so much for sharing it with all. Sorry that I missed the Cooke City trip this year. I am doing quite well now. Always next year.

WOW! Absolutely incredible photos. I have a question... I'm a flatlander from OK planning a trip with my sons and some friends up Elk Creek to Vestal Basin and over the saddle between Vestal and W. Trinity Peaks to Balsam Lake. I was told by a ranger that the saddle was not a technical climb - just very hard. We have absolutely no climbing skills, just a lot of determination to hike up steep hills that don't require ropes. Can you tell me how technical that saddle is.

If I had to comment on each picture in your galleries that took my breath away I would be typing away deep into the night. Inspiring, stunning and breathtaking, well done!!

Great photo's!! I fell in love with the Tetons many years ago. My wife made her first ever trek out there last summer with me. Not only was this her first trip to the Tetons, but her first backpacking trip as well. This will become an annual trip for both of us. Never thought about any climbing, only backpacking. Anyway......thanks for sharing.

Man this album is killing me! ;) Accelerating my daydreaming of getting back out in nature tenfold. Very nice photography. I'm very jealous of all the places you've been. If you're ever lacking people on a trip out west, you can count me in. hahha.

Hi,
Thank you very much for the record of your climbs on Cube Point and the Grand. I did those two peaks in 1960 and 1962, respectively, with Exum guides Jake Brietenbach and Barry Corbet. I was all of 13 and 15, and even now I recall with tremendous pleasure the climbs, the 4:00 a.m. start from the lower saddle, the warmth of the hanging canyon below Cube. Anyway, all my photos have gone missing, so your will do beautifully. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Steve and Kathy, as an avid hiker, I truly love your awesome photos. My husband and I have hiked many of the same places, but there are some that we haven't yet experienced. So we're wondering, is there an e-mail where we can write and ask you some questions? Sincere thanks. Stormie

I was very happy to come across your site having hiked the Teton Crest Trail for the 2nd time in 23 years this past summer. You have great photographs. I have family up there so I've been doing a lot in the surrounding mountains for over 30 years. I've wanted to write about that area for sometime and might ask your permission to use a photograph...or all of them. They're awesome. Thank you for a fine memory,

Kathy and Steve,
My husband and I just came back from a trip to Yosemite (our 10 year anniv.) We have been several times with the kids, but not alone--it was so great. I am writing, because we did the Yosemite Falls trail and I of course forgot my camera. I was hoping for a great photo from the top of the falls (where the pools are looking over the edge) Any thoughts on where I could get that--thought about making it a present for the actual anniversary--
thanks!

Kathy and Steve,

HI! This is your long lost cousin from IOWA! I have been poking around your website and WOW! what wonderful trips and places you have been.

It looks like you had a great time in New Zealand, I am hoping to get there someday.
If you get a chance, send me your email address and I will share some of my recent trips. I just got back from Monterrey Mexico. My future trips include Brazil, Bejing, and Zweibruken Germany. Although I won't have as much time to spend on leisure, I hope to visit some beautiful places while there.

Keep up the world traveling,
Your (a little bit envious) Cousin,
Adrienne

Steve,

I am not a registered Backpacker forum user (because I amnoit sure I want all the junk maiul that sure to follow) but I did see in one of the threads that you hiked the Canyon last Thaksgiving. My family is going to do that this Thanksgiving, staying as you did at Phantom and Indian Gardens and you would seem a great source of knowledge. Can I ask you a couple of questions:

We are Easterners (Virignia). Two 50 year old parents and their 13 & 14 year old kids.

1) Other than right at the top, does it ever really get cold in the
Canyon? My wife has read the possible temperature ranges posted by
the Park Service and wants to bring all sorts of semi-cold weather
gear and since I carry a lot of the load I want to make sure it is
necessary. Seems hard to belive it could ever get cold, although I
have only been there in the summer.

2) Is there any particular place within the two campgrounds we should
try and camp - perhaps farther away from the crowds - if there are
crowds - or anything we should be sure and see or do when there?

3) Anything else you think we should know?

Just thinking about this trip and thought I'd ask for advice from
anyone who's done it before. We are really looking forward to it. I am not sure whether you will see this or how you can respond to it but I thought I'd give it a try.

Thanks,

Nash Bilisoly
