Diane, I am in awe of your skill and talent. Your images are so diverse and all are a pleasure to view. I find myself studying each and every little detail. Your photographs inspire me to look at my surroundings with different eyes. At times I feel there is nothing here in Winnipeg Manitoba that hasn't been photographed a million times yet you make the mundane fascinating. It has warmed up a little and so I think I will go out and shoot tomorrow. It has been a while for me.

Your photos bring back memories from not so long ago. Great Art! I grew up in a cotton mill village I Roanoke Rapids, NC. I currently am writing a piece on the families and social structure on the all the families that I grew up with. It is a wonderful experience to recall--even the sad parts. Hey, Diane! So you CAVED and bought the 20D, huh? You are SUCH A TROUBLE MAKER, LOL! Now I HAVE to buy one! I mean, if Diane gave in, I surely must! Did you keep the 10D? How about your D30? Pardon all the questions, but I've been very much out of the loop as of late, recovering from knee surgery (what a pain in the @ss! Walking on crutches STINKS, but limping is incredibly unattractive and limiting!) and trying my best to cope with this husband-leaving-me-for-another-woman thing, which is quite devistating after living with this man for about 33 years! I read one post you mentioned that you had ordered the 20D, and I must admit I was shocked, since in the past you've exercised such control over buying cameras (unlike yours truly) ;) I was hoping to hold out for the next model up, especially since I am such an amateur and already have the 10D, but now I doubt I can do it. I mean, hell, if Diane caved, well ... how can such a crazt camera buyer such as myself NOT? Anyway, sorry for the rambling. I just wanted to drop a quick note and say hello and happy Spring. GREAT SHOTS Diane!!! It's one thing to see a shot in your mind, another to have the kind of equipment and know how to capture it correctly, but you go beyond both those with using the perfect framing to tie all three together! I really loved your photos, especially of your home area. You obviously love your property and maximize your gardening skills to enjoy greater viewing pleasure. Dear Diane, I have enjoyed stumbling upon your photographs and can recognize Hickory and maybe Granite Falls . I left Lenoir in 1965 and moved to Cape Cod and still feel an affinity for the western NC foothills and mountains. I go back ocassionally to Cajas Mountin to visit my brother and we usually head up to Blowing Rock and on todowntown Vilas if I'm lucky. The pottery looks terrific as does your perenial gardens. Awesome use of the digital camera. I have a B&W darkroom in which I mainly develop infrared film and soft color by hand. I love your digital IR photos. Can you share the basic steps you take once you have taken dig IR pictures? I use my normal IR filters, & my little dig camera is old enough to allow the IR thru (has older CCD). But, I have not been able to conquer the Photo Shop darkroom process & actions to follow! Thank you. Another IR lover.... sherry kanoski

Infrared advise needed I have a new Canon A70 camera. The filter I am using is a Tiffin #87 filter. It is black, and sees only IR light. The results I am getting are very Infrared, indeed, but the focus is crap. How is it your pics are so sharp? I know the G1 does great IR...but still..... Could it be the filter I am using is too much for the camera? I am going to get a r72 filter also. Any ideas on how to focus? What do you do?

Hey Diane, great shots. I see in dpreview, you have both an E10 and D60. I currently have an E10,seriously contemplatine pourchasing either the Nikon D100, or Canon D60. I am leaning towards the Canon. I am a serious hobbyist that will probably be working side by side with a wedding photographer (to learn the tricks of the trade) this spring. Another one is Mitchell Funk (not sure if I have the name right - it has been awhile since I saw anything of his). Time passes by so quickly. It has been months since I made my last visit here (either my favorites list has to be smaller or I'm going to have to get a faster connection – so many pictures to view). I definitely like your style and choice of subjects. Looks like you live in a great area for interesting photographs. Very nice IR pics. As I am about to make a new digital camera purchase, I was wondering: how do you take your IR pics ? Does the camera need a special feature ? It seems people mention a filter (what does it do) ? What about the color and how does one remove it (on the camera or later through sopftware) ?
