HI Neil,
Steve and I were looking through your gallery of pictures. I have not seen them in a while. I am always amazed at how talented you are. We loved the shuttle launch pictures. I also enjoyed seeing your pictures of adam and family. His children are so expressive. You really captured great facial expressions. I feel like i know them through your lens! Miss you. xo Sis and Steve

Hello, I found your site and gallery after doing a search for Havre de Grace July 4th parades. I am a member of and run a site for a Pennsylvania based drum and bugle corps, the Hanover Lancers (www.hanoverlancers.com.) I'd like permission to use this photo: DSCN_45970.jpg from your 2006 July 4th Parade gallery on our site. It's a GREAT image of one of the leaders of our corps. Thanks in advance for your reply!

This is a longshot, but I am wondering if you are the same neil who gave me a ride after this past Saturday's Renn Fest.

If you are, I left a bag of stuff in your car. My girlfriend is sad.

Thanks. :)

Mr. Rothschild,

You mentioned in a post on Planet Nikon Forum that you had used a TC-301 with your D70 / 500mm f4 lens. When you use that combination, are you using a light meter? or is your teleconverter modified? If it is modified, can you share with me how to go about making such a modification?

Many thanks,

Ray

Neil,
I am looking for a really good camera that I can use to take black & white pictures of my kids. I don't know much about cameras & it looks like you do. Nice pictures! I like the one with the bird flying over the ocean. Thanks for your help!

Great pics Neil!! I've witnessed quite a few of those beautiful sunsets and beach scenes while working at Golden Sands, but I've only been able to describe them to friends/family. So now, I will highly recommend them visiting for webapage. Keep up the great work!!

Dale,

I am very happy with the kit lens. For $300 you can't go wrong. The only problem is some vignetting that cleans up easily in Nikon Capture.

I upgraded my 75-300 F4.5-5.4 zoom to a 300 F4 and 70-200 VR and yes, there is a difference that you can see. You say "match focal lengths and speeds...", but in almost every case, speed comes with the better lenses. In some cases a stop costs 2 or 3x the lesser lens. I don't know what else to say. Is it worth it? That's a personal thing, based on your needs and pocket book. I put money into the long end because I see a big difference there and speed helps.

In the case of the 18-70DX, replacing that is way down my list because I like the lens so much, if that is any help.

If you would like to see some comparisons between the 75-300 (probably similar to the current 70-300 ED) and the 300F4 I can do that for you. I did post a comparison between the 18-70 at 50mm and the 50mm 1.4. I thought the differences were negligable but the 50 has the speed of course.

Regards,
Neil

Hi
I saw some of your great photos on the dpreview forum. I'm not registered and couldn't respond there but I have a question. In general, how much difference is there between the finest Nikkor lenses and the middle range ones? I'm only talking about the mid-range lenses that closely match the focal lengths, speeds etc of the top lenses. Can everyone tell the difference or does it take a very precise technical analysis to see? I'm interested in the spendy 28-70 f2.8 ED IF but it's stretching my budget, particularly when I don't have a dslr yet. Am looking at the D70. I come from the old school of 35mm and medium format. Want very clean but not at any price. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.
Thanks
Dale Shank

hi there,

those shots with the Questar are great, I'll have to look into seeing how it might work with my own camera :)
