You are an amazing artist with eyeson beaty. You are definitely gifted in high talent of arts and your photos sends lots of culture feedbacks. I am a traveler myself and loves landscafe photography. I did it a lot of this back in college with friends before the digital camera. It was a lot of fun and lots of money for me during that time also when I was attending college of Engineering from Saint Louis University, Philippines.I have to stop. Now, I still take photos here and there but not like yours! You are owesome and lucky to see the places you have been. Thank you for sharing your photos in public and I wish you a very goodluck in your next trip. I will tell my friends about your photo entries and I bet they will feel the same like me. You definitely have lots of courage to take some of your photos in some forbidden places. God bless. Takecare.

Matt,
I was checking out the CCH website and felt a need to donate to the cause. What an astonishing life these people live and the CCH seems like an oasis in the middle of the chaos.

thanks for all the comments! in response to the guest two below, i always ask before taking a portrait or kindo of closer more invasive photo, but as for distance shots normally not. It's a tough call, and you really have to judge the people and culture around you. for example, people in Mongolia love cameras and really like it and see it more as an honor when you take their picture, where as people in Bolivia hate it and see cameras more as evil time freezers. Thanks again for the comment, I really appreciate it!

Hello Matt!

Being honest, I have not checked, so far, your other galleries except of Nepal. Being a Nepalese, I just plunged into your snaps of my "Maatri-Bhumi" Nepal.

Awesome shots...!!! The way you capture those moments of either the Sadhu on Pashupati or those naive kids on Siruwari Balami Gau, they are just superb.

You make me feeling so nostalgic of my home away from home....!!!

Great Job!

Hola Matt!
Me llamo Rebeca y tengo 24 años.

Now is the only time, be content! Lucky to be able to visit all those amazing places, look forward to returning to see what else you have added of the now!

Hey Matt, I am a Nepali living in Canada.
I have lived here for 2 years now and I am attending the University of Calgary in Calgary, AB, Canada. Just wanted to say thank you so much for all those pictures, because even in my 16 years in Nepal, I did not have the opportunity to travel freely. And now that I am here in Canada, going back seems like a long shot because of school. But thank you so much for all those wonderful pictures and thank you so much for being with those poor families. You made them smile, and that is the greatest of all tasks. Thank you so much for doing all those things that I wanted to do in my own country, but unfortunately could not. God bless you my friend.
Bobby.

It is wonderful you are travelling the world and experiencing so much of life at the age you are now. I can imagine there would be many fun-filled adventures to tell. You seem to have a great organization you're working through too.

I'm looking forward to a trip to Sao Paulo Brazil to create a charitable project working with photographers. I want to collect photographs for a book entitled "Through the Eyes of an Angel". This book would be photos of children without parents captured in expressions of joy and celebration. If you have knowledge of people or organizations that would further this please let me know.

Thank you Matt!

Hola Mateo!!
Cuidate. Te quiere mucho tu amigo y consejero, Senor Gomez.

Hi Matt! I'm going on the Dragons Himalaya semester in two weeks! My name is Elizabeth and I'm hoping to focus on photography while I'm there, as it appears you have done! Your photographs are amazingly sharp and beautifully composed! I had a question about your camera, as to how long you've been using it and if you have experience with other kinds of digital cameras (in specific, the Nikon cameras). I have a Nikon D70 and right now the lense is DX SWM ED IF Aspherical. My dad has a Canon EOS10D, and it's considerably heavier than the Nikon. I am wondering if you know of any significant differences in the quality of image between the two. Could you give me any recommendations towards which one I should take? Thank you very much for your time and for your wonderful pictures!
Sincerely,
ELizabeth

Hi Matt,

Thanks for taking the time to look at my galleries, and for leaving the comment on my Macau gallery! I really must say that I was pleasantly surprised by Macau, since I had only heard about the gambling and vices to be found there!

I'm really impressed by the way you portray people! I agree with many of the previous posters, that it is remarkable how you are able to empathise, and hence portray with feeling, people from all of these different cultures around the world!

I'm heading to Cambodia in a few weeks, and hope to replicate some of the magic that you have - although I am sure that it will be a long time before I am able to come anywhere close to your level of ability!

Keep updating the gallery! I for one will be very keen to see where you head to next!

Thanks for sharing your photos, they are great. I have a few questions/comments, sorry to be longwinded:

How do you afford to travel so much, both in terms of money and time (aren't you in school?)

Also, I found the references to 'alternate cultures' and 'corners of the globe' mildly offensive. These phrases are egocentric and miss the most essential thing one can learn from travel: while language, material culture, and other customs change around the globe and throughout history, people are basically the same everywhere.

Sorry to sound off. Honestly, great pics.
Shawna 08-May-2004 20:05
Matt:

I am speechless. At 17, you demonstrate more curiosity and empathy for alternate cultures than 99% of the world's populace ever will! I anxiously await your Galapagos photos!

Thanks for dropping by and looking at my Mali gallery. I appreciate your comment. I can tell I am going to have to take some time and go through your very interesting site.

And you are right, certainly there have always been beautiful and interesting people in the corners of the globe I have travelled.

Matt,

Your galleries are excellent, full of compassion and understanding for people and their surroundings. I mentioned it in your Nepal 2003 Gallery and repeat it again: "You are a talented photographer". I share you travel obsession as a way of positive life affirmation. There is so much we can learn by immersing ourself among people from different cultures and appreciating our common humanity. Thanks for your pics again and keep up the good work around the world.

Hello Matt,

thank you for your comments on my photo's, I'm glad you enjoyed them.
I really enjoyed your Nepal gallery, I've spend a month there in 1994, trekking up to Everest base camp (or Kalar Patar anyway), and I'm hoping to get back there next year (ten years after) to get to Mustang. My visits are limited to my yearly leave though, it looks as if you've spend a bit more time and got around more.
As far as Vietnam and Cambodia goes, I can only recommend you going there. Particulary Vietnam is one of my favorite places that I've been to. Beautifull country, beatifull people and great food.
Greetings

Hello Matt,

thanks for commenting on my Nepal 2002 gallery. I have updated some pics, so feel free to browse through again (Kangchenjunga Trek still needs some more pics to be added.)

I have really enjoyed your galleries. Absolutely taken away by your pictures from Thailand. Awesome stuff, your people's pics show character and class. You will really have easy time to take pics like that in Nepal, people are very friendly and open, scenery is stunning. Just take a little longer zoom (something like 70-200) as not to encroach on people's privacy and you'll get those prize-winning pics when they don't pose and just behave naturally. Kids are altogether another challenge. They just love to be in front of camera...

Good luck in Nepal...
