About two years ago we published our book "Food from Northern Laos", which describes how to make some of the unique food we've eaten on our trips there. The book features many of the photographs shown on this website
You can find out more about the book at http://www.foodfromnorthernlaos.com/
or read its first online review athttp://www.bangkokimages.com/Articles/FeaturedDestinations/tabid/60/entryid/741/Default.aspx

By renting it, you will contribute to the work of New Zealand Volunteers Abroad Service, which brought us to Timor
Recently, I have had some very interesting comments on the various ceremonies that are shown here. I welcome any further comments, also additional information you maybe able to supply that can further clarify the meaning of these ceremonies, and your own experiences in relation to them and also further information about the subjects I have photographed.
Nearly all photographs on this site were taken from 2002 onwards in Laos, Luang Namtha province, as part of an ongoing project to document lifestyles and culture of minority ethnic groups in this rapidly changing area.
More detail may be found on my main website http://kees.zenfolio.com
Some further info on my photographs of ceremonial events in Yao villages can be found at

I am very open to receiving any feedback from viewers.
