thanx for answering me about the jumping spider.. your photos are awe inspiring!
Ben Witzke 30-Aug-2008 20:39
Jay, your photos are amazing, I am especially fond of jumping spiders because of their seemingly high intelligence and attractive coloring...

I am an amateur naturalist and a professional illustrator, I'd love to use some of your macro work as source for scientific illustrations... with your permission of course.

Let me know... and once again, superb work!

checked out your bird pages after seeing your excellent macro shots of chelicerae of jumping spiders. The composition of the blackbird & the two goldfinches is super!
Not to mention the technical issues like focus etc.. Good work

Jay,

Jenny Etz put me on to your web site and the photo of the unidentified pupa. If it is as large as I think it is, I think the candidates would be Arctiidae or Sphingidae. If it is the former, there should have been in a hairy cocoon made from larval hairs, and under tree bark would be possible. If it is a sphingid, it should have been in a cell dug in the soil. In any case, the anal hooks are called the cremaster and are used to hold the pupa in place in the cocoon or cell.

I have a web site catalogue of insect photos as well. If you'd like to see it, send me an e-mail. I can't post the link here.

Hi Jay,

I would like to ask a huge favor from you. I moderate a popular fly tying forum, where a number of us create ultra-realistic fishing flies, often using a high quality photo for reference, and for the September Challenge we will be replicating a midge. Upon searching far and wide it has been determined that you have the photo we would like to use for reference. Here is the Midge photo;http://www.pbase.com/jbarnes/image/33020296 Here is a link to the fly tying forum;http://www.flytyingforum.com/index.php?showforum=49

Please allow me to post your photo once on this site for reference; I will mention your website and fabulous photos with a link and a thank you. We have some amazing artists from all over the world participating and having fun.

Respectfully,

Graham O

Hi Jay!
You have had great photos, especially about insects.
To respect your copyright, I want to notice you that one of your photo (The Chironomid Midge) has been used in an article of a Vietnamese Newspaper. Link:http://www3.thanhnien.com.vn/Xahoi/2005/8/22/119705.tno
It would be great if the news had asked you for permit. Otherwise, that is illegal!!!
Sincerely!

Jay, your photos of Yucatan are great. I came seeking inspiration for our trip to Tulum and certainly found it! We're heading down on Saturday Nov 15 - if you have a chance before then, could you email me details of where you took the photos of the panther and other big cats?
Many thanks,
Carol
