hi all,
thanks for stopping by and leaving me comments. my love for photography is trumped only by my love of life - living it and appreciating everything in it. i celebrate it by capturing the essence of people and things. candids of people is by far my favorite and i thank all those who have been willing to ignore me and the sound of the shutter and go on being their radiant (sometimes silly, serious, deep in thought or loving) selves. to capture someone's natural splendor and uniqueness and be able to express it through a photograph to someone who has never met them is my greatest passion.
nature and landscape photography to me means trying to create a particular mood or to give a new perspective to something that we might normally overlook or consider ordinary. taking pictures of things that we all agree is beautiful is fun, but the greater challenge to me is showing the brilliance in something we might not normally find beautiful. my favorite subject in this area is what i call gnarly trees - the more gnarly and old, the better. their majesty, unique character and thirst to survive they display from the affects of life, time, and exposure to the elements. capturing the wind and other "invisible" things on film are also fun since they can only be seen through their affect on visible objects. pure, untouched beauty in green and youthful things is universally cherished, but the beauty of fully living life and the visible marks left are what move me most.
some photos on my site are there to celebrate and share with friends and family and are not particularly "masterpieces". i have separate galleries, which i am slowly populating with some of my favorite photographs.
we are all artists. friends of mine who so graciously took the camera and showed me their unique perspective and flavor of the moments took some of the photos on my site. these photos are marked with their names. to me it is as important to contribute as well as appreciate other masterpieces.
